How much are you laughing in your life? How much do you smile every day? How much joy and laughter do you spread? When people think of you would they say you are happy?

This is a little story to remember to always choose happiness and laughter...

-------------------------------------------

When the late Nadine Stair of Louisville, Kentucky, was 85 years old, she was asked what she would do if she had her life to live over again.

"I'd make more mistakes next time," she said. "I'd relax. I would limber up. I would be sillier than I have been on this trip. I would take fewer things seriously. I would take more chances. I would climb more mountains and swim more rivers. I would eat more ice cream and less beans. I would perhaps have more actual troubles, but I'd have fewer imaginary ones.

"You see, I'm one of those people who live sensibly and sanely hour after hour, day after day. Oh, I've had my moments, and if I had to do it over again, I'd have more of them. In fact, I'd try to have nothing else. Just moments, one after another, instead of living so many years ahead of each day. I've been one of those persons who never goes anywhere without a thermometer, a hot water bottle, and a raincoat. If I had to do it over again, I would travel lighter than I have.

"If I had my life to live over, I would start barefoot earlier in the spring and stay that way later in the fall. I would go to more dances. I would ride more merry-go-rounds and I would pick more daisies."

5000momshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12039813574990516972noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2144129795008919850.post-77058311116935286722011-02-02T08:03:00.001-08:002011-02-02T08:15:42.306-08:00It's A Quote Day - Be Inspired! It's a quote day today. We all want to make extra money. Who doesn't right? We need to make extra money so our kids can take piano lessons, so we can take that cruise, buy the furniture we want, get the boat, pay for our house faster, spend more time with our family... There are so many reasons to make extra money.
However, is it right to focus on making extra money? Is making money a bad thing? There are so many people I hear talking about how rich people must have 'robbed' someone or if our hearts are set on money then we are not focusing on what is 'right' in our lives.

Well, I want to have a little debate about that. I don't believe money is a bad thing. I also don't believe that wanting extra money is bad. Earning money is a good thing... it all depends on your MOTIVATION for doing so.

Money is simply a tool of production. Without it because of the world we live in, we simply don't have as much to exchange in the market place.

Are you in a place in your life that you NEED to earn extra money to survive, but you don't know where to start? Well, here are my 5 suggestions of where to look if you are searching for extra money, but have no idea have to move forward:
1. Start with your mindset: During these hard economic times, there is too much focus on 'not enough'. Living abundantly means being abundant is all areas of your life, not just finances.

continue with the article here By Andrea Palmer
5000momshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12039813574990516972noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2144129795008919850.post-7537885243182276212010-08-24T15:31:00.001-07:002010-08-24T15:36:38.912-07:00WELCOME BACK TO 5000MOMS!5000moms has been in the midst of working on backend technology for the site during the summer months, and as moms- we also balanced the project with summer time fun. She thought with 5000momsand who I am - having my own talk show would be a perfect fit. Hosting my own talk show has always been on my “dream list”. When Oprah announced her campaign, it did make me pause and consider the possibilities. As I mulled the idea around in my brain I thought through the details. How would it work? What would I offer the world that is new or different from all the other Oprah hopefuls? What about my family life and kids? As my brain strategized, I could already feel the answer in my heart. My brain could work out the details but my heart said NO. I sat for a minute thinking about the first day my show would go live. Heart says “not the right season”. I want afternoons to swing in the backyard with my daughter and late nights of trying to understand my teenage son. I want quiet days in my pjs writing a blog post for 5000moms and overnighters with my husband. I am sure fancy calendaring would allow for those things to happen and have the stardom of a television career – but for now I want more quiet and less air time.

Audition information from Oprah

When making decisions, I have learned that I need to pause and take a moment to hear what my heart is saying not just what my brain is thinking. When I can’t seem to feel the answer, I take it to Quiet Time. I use prayer, staying quiet and still so I can know the answer and maybe see the bigger picture that God has created. He can direct us because he sees all the planes in the air. He is in the control tower directing our path if we let him. It is during this process we avoid inflight crashes and unneccessary detours. Trusting Him means I will peridoically delay landing because of incliment weather or because another plane is ahead of me. Trusting that His timing is always better than I can dream is what I define as faith.

I love the classic country song from Garth Brooks. “Sometimes I thank God For- (finish the article here by Soul Essentials Director, Ganel-Lyn Condie.

5000momshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12039813574990516972noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2144129795008919850.post-33248605059796205012010-06-04T15:27:00.000-07:002010-06-04T15:31:13.175-07:00Why We Require SupplementsTo be healthy, strong and maintain a sense of vibrancy and energy throughout our lives, our bodies require a broad range of essential vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other micronutrients. We can obtain most of the nutrients we need from a well-balanced diet, but not at the optimal levels now shown to promote health over the long term.
Add that to poor eating habits, meals on the run, fast food restaurants and processed foods which further depletes their nutritional value, and we are left with meals devoid of nutritional value. Plus, we are exposed to a hundred more toxins than our parents did. Even with a well-balanced diet, it is difficult to reach the advanced levels of nutrients that has been shown to promote optimal health.

Nutritional supplements are like a little insurance to maintain and enhance your optimal level of health. However, please understand that all supplements are not created equally. You could go to a local store and pick up a bottle of vitamins thinking you are getting something that will improve your health and overall wellbeing.

But how much do you know about what you are taking? How well will it be absorbed in your body? What type of quality exists in each pill? Is the vitamin designed to prevent nutritional deficiency diseases, such as Rickets? Or is it actually going to help you achieve the optimal level of health?

Why Usana

USANA is a word that translates to mean “True Health”. I love the demographic, I love the team I work with, I believe that when good women around the world unite together in a common purpose that is real power. And I knew that together we could help to facilitate change for women in their personal lives that would allow them a window to make a difference in their financial lives. But I was also possibly the most apprehensive about our corporate alliance- USANA Health Sciences.

My professional background is in corporate marketing and sales. I am drawn to high-energy, fast paced environments and thrived on the media sales and marketing energy. But after 10 years, it became a huge drain on what I felt was truly where my heart was. My hearts desires and my professional life were competing with each other My heart was with my family, my children, my home, but I didn’t want to loose that energy and creativity that I felt when I was working. Shortly after I left the corporate world to stay at home with my second child, I quickly found like-minded women who were starting a magazine for women. I quickly jumped on board and two years later, depleted and exhausted, I took a year to just be. I wondered why after all these years my desire to stay at home and be with my children,I jumped into an emotionally and physically exhausting start up magazine. While I learned a lot, it was a hard lesson on me and my family. A year after my – what I like to call- ‘Ashram year’, I was approached by my dear friend whom I’d worked with on the magazine to consider a network marketing venture with her. Not only did I say no. . . I was mad that she even would ask! Me. . network marketing. . .it just wasn’t even a consideration. As I listened to my dear friend say- “we can create our own marketing tool. . . “, we could apply all the tools that we learned at the magazine to help women feel connected to each other and we could do that virtually. .. although we didn’t have the know how in this area, it was a conversation I was willing to have. After about 2 months, a 15 year veteran and very successful USANA Diamond director began to unite a team of women across the country. The project manager of 5000moms- Andrea Palmer had the vision and leadership skills to help unite us as a team, and direct us in how to organize and create this amazing tool. I was SOLD on that idea, but had to be open to the idea of our corporate alliance many months before I was actually convinced that it was the best tool for us.

I was standing in my kitchen doing my dishes and it HIT me- I actually looked around to see if there was someone I could tell my story too, I picked up the phone to call a few girl friends, no one was around. Ok, I thought, this moment is just for me. This is what I came to realize that day.

1. It is the stage of no sleep and feedings. It is a season. All seasons change and they grow up. The giving of yourself to a baby, that can’t give much back to you, creates a magical bond that carries you both through the ups and downs of those teenage years.
This concept is what I like to call the law of generosity. Simply stated, you can’t keep what you don’t give away.

Elbert Hubbard, ”Love grows by giving. The love we give away is the only love we keep. The only way to retain love is to give it away.”

I don’t think that the law of generosity only applies to the currency of love. If we think about time, money or talents they also will increase in capacity as we share them. When we break a law the opposite is also true. Hold tight and hide away your love and talents they seem to shrivel and disappear. Our hearts seem to increase in size with the addition of a new baby and thus our capacity to love multiplies. The same principle will apply to our time and money?

Read the rest of the post by Soul Essentials Director- Ganel-Lyn Condie here.

5000momshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12039813574990516972noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2144129795008919850.post-22221019407836976762010-05-06T12:37:00.001-07:002010-05-06T12:41:28.908-07:00Putting Yourself in the Clearance Bin

I bought a book a while ago for $19.97, read it and received huge value from it.

The other day I was in the book store and saw that same book in the “Clearance Bin” for only $5.

It was weird because seeing this book on sale, I felt cheapened my experience that previously had been so valuable.

It made me realize that part of the way we value experiences in life is through the cost associated with a product or service.

When we get things for a “discount” or “on clearance” we tend to value it less.

What do you do in life or business that devalues yourself or your service?

How do you put yourself in the Clearance Bin?

Maybe it is not following through with what you say, not respecting your time or health. Thanks Brenda–you are wonderful!

Money Management: Personal Finance #1

Hi! I’m Brenda Kenworthy, the 5000moms Training Director. As I thought of how I could bring my career knowledge into the world of 5000moms, it became very clear to me that sharing ideas about how to handle personal finance issues was a great place to start. Whether handling finances for corporations or paying those bills at home, many of the techniques and procedures can be helpful in both areas.

So I am going to start with the very beginning, Setting Up Your Bank Accounts. This may sound like a “no-brainer” and I bet most of you are thinking, “Okay, I already have a checking account, so what is Step 2?” Well, as a single mom putting myself through school, I discovered a very helpful technique to managing my money and I would love to share it with you.

First, I opened four bank accounts. Yep. Four. I opened these at a credit union where the accounts can be “connected”. I opened a “share” account which required me to maintain a $25 balance. I opened two checking accounts, one with a checkbook and one with a debit card. And finally I opened a savings account which could only be accessed by transferring funds to one of the checking accounts through a phone call or online. I did not make this savings account accessible to overdrafts from the checking accounts.

So, here is how I used them. Ready?

1. When I received grant or school loan money, I immediately deposited this into the savings account. Note that in addition to keeping this money protected from checking overdraft, I was also keeping it protected from fraud. My wallet was once stolen and thankfully my “big” money was never touched because I had no overdraft access or no debit/credit cards attached to that account.

2. My paycheck from my job was direct deposited in the checking account with the checkbook. This account was used to pay my bills. I always made sure I had enough money in that account to cover my bills. And I would only use it to pay my bills. Therefore, I never bounced a check due to those annoying debit charges that can be forgotten.

3. After calculating the amount of bills that needed to be paid for the month, and making sure there was enough to cover them in my checking with checkbook account, I transferred the remaining funds to my debit card checking account. This account was my “spending money”. I used this debit card to purchase all food, gas, clothes for my boys and I and any extra expenses that needed to be paid. This is a really safe way to go, because if there is not enough money in the account, the card simply will not work. No overdraft charges, no extra fees. I simply cannot buy what I wanted to buy. If you actually have more money than you have budgeted to spend for the month, by all means feel free to transfer the remaining funds into your savings account for a rainy day. We all know these come from time to time.

4. The fourth account was the initial account I was required to open and maintain a $25 balance. This account I could use when I had an upcoming expense which would require me to save over a short period of time, whether it be for vacation or Christmas or Disneyland. (I love Disneyland!) I would simply transfer the amount I had designated each month to this account from my “spending money” and it was always there when I needed it.

I promise you that by following this simple plan, you will save time, energy and stress with paying your bills and knowing there is enough to cover you through the end of the month or pay period. There is nothing better than knowing that everything is handled and no bills will go unpaid, in addition to allowing you to create a budget for yourself, simply by transferring only the money you need for the month into that debit checking account.

Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have and enjoy the peace that comes from managing you money. Have a wonderful week and I hope to hear from you!

Brenda
Brenda@5000moms.com
5000momshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12039813574990516972noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2144129795008919850.post-68714615595651005422010-04-30T14:54:00.000-07:002010-04-30T15:00:38.715-07:00Getting Real with Work at Home Moms
I have to be honest. Sometimes working at home is really hard.

Personally I have decided to build my business while I am home with my kids. I know there are many women who aren’t ‘work at home’ moms… But today I want to focus my thoughts and feelings specifically to those women who are mom’s at home full time and also working to building their businesses.

It’s hard sometimes you know? I have people to call, I have emails to write, I have forms I need to finish, I have training that needs to be done… all thewhile my son is crying, teething, needing ‘mommy’ and pulling on my arm. How does one balance it all while being a TRUE mom – focusing on your kids – AND building a business?

This is a question that I am asked a lot lately. ‘How are you really finding time to build this business while being a full time mom at the same time?’. So let’s talk down and dirty about things that every ‘work at home’ mom is going to experience. Just know you are normal:

Someone will call you while you are cleaning up around the high chair and your son just throws up on you while on the phone.

There will be times when you will find yourself irritated with your kid(s) because they are getting in the ‘way’.

Your schedule will get milk spilled on it and you will find yourself double-booking appointments because you forgot to rewrite them down.

There will be dishes in the sink and laundry on the couch longer than you want it to be there.

You will ask yourself,”Holy Crap – what am I doing all this for? I am going crazy!”

If I am the only one who has experienced this – then call me crazy. But I have a feeling a lot of ‘work at home moms’ experience these things and MUCH MORE every day.
So how do you deal with it? How do you really stay balanced and focused on your family WHILE building a business? I would suggest these 5 things. These are NOT the ‘end all be all’ solutions, but I find when I do these 5 things it helps me immensely:

Find the rest of the article from Andrea Palmer here.

5000momshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12039813574990516972noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2144129795008919850.post-29859050999040610222010-04-21T08:07:00.001-07:002010-04-21T16:18:28.013-07:00WHAT A GREAT KICK OFF PARTY!!
The New Design and tools of 5000moms has launched! She complained that her boyfriend was being secretive about his income. Sometime during the call, I stated that secrecy has a way of damaging relationships. Out of the blue, she starts yelling at him saying that I think he should stop hiding his money from her. As I sat there listening, I could hear her boyfriend in the background laughing his heart out. Now, one problem I saw with this couple, aside from the guy’s lack of empathy for his girlfriend’s concerns, was the fact that she wanted honesty but was not giving it in return. That is why it is imperative to calmly discuss issues as they arise and to make a joint effort to find fitting resolutions.

These types of circumstances happen in many relationships where you have one person who wants the other person to be an open book, but they are not practicing an acceptable degree of openness themselves. Generally, people are secretive because they have been hurt in the past and are carrying around emotional baggage. In case you don’t realize it, baggage can have an adverse effect on relationships which causes a person to collect more baggage as they move from one relationship to another. This cycle tends to go on and on for many people and will continue for a lifetime unless they learn to build trusting relationships.
It can be hard to see the benefits of learning to trust- click here to read the rest of the article.
5000momshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12039813574990516972noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2144129795008919850.post-18178945710659601262010-04-14T15:21:00.001-07:002010-04-14T15:24:26.046-07:005000moms launch party for the site redesign!Don't miss it!! Or are you someone who puts that into the “I’ll get to it later pile”? In managing your business, every call that gets put into the “I’ll get to it later pile” often can mean the success or failure of your business.

Why are returned phone calls and emails so essential to running a successful business? Let’s pose the question before that, which is WHY aren’t you making the calls?

Is it truly that you are just too busy? Possibly, a little planning in advance can take care of this problem, or is there a real fear of failure or rejection looming over your head. If you don’t return the phone call, “they” can’t say No- but you know what, “they” can’t say yes either.

On Womenentreprenuer.com Paula Gregorowicz who is the creator of “Comfortable in Your Own Skin Coaching Process” offers three points to help you reach past the fear of failure. My ego shows up in a few ways. One of them is wanting to be right. I am working on recognizing this behavior and with love for myself – giving myself permission to be wrong and make mistakes. When you decide you want to clear a pattern or behavior in your life, the universe gives you opportunities to practice. So I was not surprised the other day when the chance to practice saying I am sorry and being in the wrong showed up. I was driving my daughter to dance. It was raining lightly and I came to a crosswalk. I was distracted and not using my best driving skills and started to pull into the crosswalk while the crossing guard was helping young students get across.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 192px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAglxsK17qHOJObs5mqrd1Twz9TW7M5ZvHFWSOoYXCDrj5OMt0ahiJjOtN0MKrg-QYCRXA9gGlSJimSvQ-ayAEv2n8mPPf9FlFkGaVX_ZmCTL9iYKGa6IgiivmevGRJBLNIcNEp9H7tMh_/s200/Crossing+Guard.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5450445325595818850" />
She immediately gave me an icy glare as I pulled away to continue onto dance class. Jeffrey will speak about Energy Management. Most people focus on trying to manage their time… and honestly not many succeed long term with that. Time management, like dieting, does not work long term because the focus is in the wrong place.

This event will teach you how to focus your most valuable resource, energy, to use it more effectively. We do this by becoming honest with what we are capable of in a given time frame with the energy we have. You will learn how to clearly see what activities are worth investing your energy in and others that are not… more importantly how to put a stop to the energy zappers allowing you to feel alive and energized.

Register Here today!5000momshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12039813574990516972noreply@blogger.com1
